My handwriting keeps changing
all the time. How can you analyze it?
It may appear to you that your handwriting changes, but a Graphoanalyst can deduce that the handwriting was written by the same person. It’s like a snapshot of who you are. You may have had a picture taken on your birthday each year. Even though you have ‘changed’ as you grew up, it is still really you in that picture. The same with your handwriting. Even though it may appear to have changed, it is still uniquely you.
My handwriting is messy.
Does this mean I'm neurotic or something?
No. The writer’s definition of “messy” does not have any value to a handwriting analyst. It is simply the writer’s perception that his/her writing is not pleasing to the eye. Every time you put a mark on paper, you are telling the Graphoanalyst something about yourself. Regardless of how messy it might look to you, or in what language it is in, it is the graphic movement on the paper that reveals your personality traits.
Nobody can read what I write.
How can you analyze my handwriting?
A Graphoanalyst doesn’t need to read what you write. It is how the strokes connect that reveals the information about your personality. In addition, a Graphoanalyst also evaluates the pressure, slant, size and proportions, spacing, margins, idiosyncrasies, etc. of the handwriting.
We were taught to write
a certain way in school. Isn't my handwriting just a reflection of that
teaching?
No. Your handwriting is as individual as your fingerprint. And no two fingerprints are alike. Even though you learned to write in a certain way, your handwriting is uniquely your own.
I haven't written in years.
I print everything. Can my handwriting be analyzed?
Yes. Although cursive (written) writing is preferred, trait assessments can be made with a printed sample. As the maximum information is illustrated through the strokes connecting, the evaluation may be lacking information.
If I change my handwriting,
can I change myself and my personality?
Yes. This is called ‘Graphotherapy’ and there is a lot of documented evidence that a person can change their handwriting to change a corresponding personality trait. Mary Ann adds a caution. Human beings are very complex. To arbitrarily decide to change something about ourselves which may have been used as a coping mechanism may produce unwanted results. This may develop or enhance another undesirable trait in order to cope.
What do you mean when you
say handwriting is really "brain" writing?
It is! The brain controls the muscles, and they control the movement of the writing instrument - whether you hold that instrument in your right hand or your left, in your mouth or in your toes. Your personality traits are revealed. This is why handwriting analysis is so accurate. You can’t run away from your brain.
How is Handwriting Analysis Used?
Self-Awareness: There is an increasing amount of interest to know what we are all about. Handwriting analysis provides real insights into the human personality – why we behave the way we do.
Compatibility: This can be used to better understand other people and what personality traits trigger friction in our partner, our co-workers, family members and friends. Great for putting teams together for projects or for couples planning to get married.
Employee Selection: A handwriting analyst can quickly identify personality traits that it will take the employer 3-4 months to evaluate about the new employee. As a selection tool, it’s fast and accurate. Also, it’s great for framing questions in reference checking.
Career: By knowing the strengths and weaknesses of an individual, handwriting analysis can reveal latent talents that are required for certain career directions. Also used by educators to gain better insights into the abilities of their students.
Document Examination/Forgery Detection/Anonymous Letters: To provide expert advice as to the authenticity of documents such as the signature on a will or the identity of an anonymous letter-writer.
Is it legal to use handwriting analysis in the hiring process?
Yes. In fact, it is an excellent way to quickly and accurately find out the behavioural traits of the applicant. The Graphoanalyst does not need to see the applicant, only the applicant’s handwriting. This is recommended, as the Graphoanalyst will not have any bias regarding the applicant. Handwriting analysis cannot tell left- or right-handedness, sex, age, race, appearance, etc. This increases the objectivity of the analysis.
Mary Ann requires a disclaimer from each writer whose handwriting is going to be analyzed.
Can you get information
from a signature?
Yes. Your signature is how you wish the public to see you. It may not be the private you, but it is how you choose to present yourself to the world.
I am left-handed. Will
that affect my handwriting?
Not at all. It is a common misconception to think that left-handed people write with a certain slant, usually slanted back to the left. A study was conducted to assess left- vs right-handedness. The handwriting experts could not ascertain whether the samples were written by left-handed or right-handed people. This eliminates any bias one might have regarding the personality traits of left- or right-handed people.
English isn’t my first language. Does that matter?
Interestingly, we get more accurate information if you write in the language that you first learned to write, not read. It’s really graphic movement, so it doesn’t matter if you are writing in English or not.
My handwriting has changed a lot over the years. Why is that?
Our handwriting is a reflection of who we are at the time we write. For example, if you left your teenage hears behind a couple of decades ago, you likely deal with matters in your life in a very different way now than you did at age 15. This is reflected in the graphic movement (handwriting) that you produce. Many of your traits will remain the same, while others will change as you do.
Nobody writes any more. Does this mean that handwriting analysis is going to die out?
Even though cursive writing is no longer taught in the school systems, many people still write. In fact, they have discovered that handwriting engages every area of the brain. It’s like giving the brain a mental workout. Questions are being asked as to whether keeping the brain stimulated can stave off some forms of dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc. Now that handwriting is catching on as a mental workout, more people are beginning to write.
Do we have to meet in person for you to analyze my handwriting?
Actually, I prefer not to meet you in person, as I get to meet you on paper. I do a lot of work over the telephone. Clients send me in their handwriting samples with their e-mail address. I e-mail them to let them know that their sample has arrived and we set up a telephone time and date for an analysis over the telephone. It’s very convenient.
I don’t always write. Sometimes I print-write. Sometimes I just print. Are you able to get any information about me if I print?
It doesn’t matter if it’s printed, written or a combination of both is used. It is really about the graphic movement, not the penmanship.
